Ho! Hey, Howdy, and Seasons Greetings! This is the annual Jacobs family Christmas letter detailing the comings and goings of Casa Del Jacobs for the year 2010. We are sorry to disappoint those of you who may have been expecting some sort of theme to the letter this year as in years past. No, there will be no pirate-talk, undercover agent jargon, or super-hero slang as in years past. You can expect a hearty dose of fact, mixed with hyperbole, though and I will let you, the reader, decide where the line smudges between the two. That being said, enjoy the letter. Or for those of you who toss the letter before reading it, enjoy the picture.
Dan: For those of you who may actually have seen him this year, you will note the more polished air about him. (Not that Dan has ever been accused of improving air quality mind you) After several years of threatening to further his education, he has finally done so and now proudly signs his name J. Daniel Jacobs M.B.A. Now if he could just find someone to pay him handsomely for those three extra letters! Dan has also turned into a sort of a fitness buff. He has logged all the miles that he has put on the treadmill this year and it amounts to nearly 50 marathons since January 1st.
Deanne: Deanne produced (with some help) her 4th son this year and spent much of her energies doing so. (We will discuss the little guy later in this letter) She would like to thank everyone who prayed for her during this pregnancy as he was born with an extra tiny head thus making delivery a cinch. No more C-sections for her! She would now appreciate all prayers on her behalf that she doesn’t devour all her offspring as to manage the chaos that reigns supreme at the Jacobs. She would also like to thank my brother’s wife for having her 4th son (all the same age as our children) so that we are not the only family banned from familial gatherings. Cacophony loves company. She is anxious to find her own peace as she begins he next fitness adventures.
Tracen: 7 years old. This boy is smart. Really smart. Wise? Polished? Not so much. He can blow his parents away with his intelligence one moment and then astound them with his bafoonery the next. What other child absent mindedly clears his place from the table after dinner and promptly tosses his plate and cutlery into the nearest toilet? No Tracen! Take your plate to the sink! The world is this boy’s jungle gym. Since the untimely demise of the family trampoline he has found tumbling on the ground to be loads of fun. Dan has been kicked in the groin several times from one of his errant, ill-timed cartwheels. We are desperately saving for another tramp... He is also training to play in the World Cup 2022, so pass along the encouragement as he climbs the ranks of AYSO!
Tyler: 6 years old. He is our strongest child and heaven help the other boys if he ever figures it out. He is also our most tender-hearted. This kid will work like a mule (not that his dad works him like one) given the chance. He also loves soccer and finally learned that playing it can be loads of fun too. No longer will his parents have the joy of watching their son chase his shadow around the soccer field as in years past. He is learning to read, loving Kindergarten and surprises his parents with his occasional thoughtfulness.
Tate: Those who know Tate really appreciate him. Those who see Tate from a distance are amused. Those who interact with Tate for the first time typically get ignored. Tate is imaginative, cheerful and warm one moment and then cool and aloof the next. In other words, he’s 3. He will call Dan at work to tell him that he pooped in the potty one moment and two minutes later load his trousers. Tate points and sometimes waves with his middle finger, some people think it’s because he doesn’t know better. Those “some” people don’t know Tate (we are trying to break him of this habit, he DID NOT learn this from Dan).
Trev: 3 months old. This young lad is wise. He understands that the less attention he garners from his elder siblings the better his chances for survival. Another tactic he employs is the puke-attack. His brothers are wary of holding him too long for fear of said counter-offensive. He has given his parents the gift of sleep as he puts in 8 – 10 hour stretches at night without stirring. He is adorable and smiley and rarely fussy at all. His parents understand that this stage is fleeting and are trying to soak it up.
The Jacobs would like to wish all of you and yours a very Merry Christmas. Those who receive this letter are dear to us and we are grateful for the wonderful relationships we have with you. All of our best to you all this upcoming year.
